On the Numerical Inversion of the Laplace Transform of a Discontinuous Original

A method for approximate numerical Laplace transform inversion is expounded and applied to a particular problem related to theoretical seismology, which has a discontinuous solution. An essential feature is that the representation of the solution in terms of elementary discontinuous functions enables rapid convergence to be obtained.
