Towards the Minimum Drag on a Body of Given Volume in Slow Viscous Flow
S. R. WATSON
Statistical Laboratory, University of Cambridge England
By merging a natural variational principle with a minimizing procedure it is possible to obtain an upper bound on the minimum possible drag on a body of given volume moving through a fluid at zero Reynolds number, and constant speed. A discussion is also given of the possibility of finding a lower bound to this quantity.
