A Power Series Method for Treating Mixed Boundary Value Problems

J. W. CRAGGS and P. W. DUCK {dagger}

Department of Mathematics, University of Southampton

A technique for treating certain mixed boundary value problems is presented, and illustrated by its application to a problem involving short surface waves in infinitely long canals. Two cases are treated, namely canals of segmental and triangular crosssections.

The method consists of expanding a power series in a working plane (a semi-circle), and results, in the examples given, in an infinite set of equations, although satisfactory numerical values may be obtained by truncation.
