Unsteady Magnetohydrodynamic Flows
Department of Mathematics, University of Strathclyde Glasgow, Scotland
It is easy enough to deduce from the exact solution for a basic unsteady magnetohydrodynamic channel flow that there are two time scales present. The possible existence of two time scales enables one to formulate a method of constructing approximate solutions for several flow problems. The approximation scheme employed here has the advantage over the more usual methods of boundary layer analysis in that it yields for each physical quantity a single representation which is valid for all times. Moreover, it is shown that the error involved in using this approximate solution is suitably small.
